FONDY SALES TAX HEARING PREVIEW

FOND DU LAC COUNTY IS HOSTING A SERIES OF PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETINGS THIS MONTH ON CONTINUING ITS HALF-PERCENT SALES TAX.  THE VOTER-APPROVED TAX IS SCHEDULED TO END IN 2021—BUT COUNTY OFFICIALS ARE PUSHING FOR IT TO BE EXTENDED INDEFINITELY.  THE SALES TAX WAS ESTABLISHED TO PAY FOR FINANCIAL INCENTIVES PROVIDED TO MERCURY MARINE TO KEEP ITS FOND DU LAC PLANT OPEN IN 2010—AND TO BRING WORK UP FROM OKLAHOMA.  THE COUNTY HAS USED EXCESS REVENUES FROM THE TAX TO FUND OTHER BUSINESS INCENTIVES.  THE FIRST PUBLIC MEETING IS TONIGHT (WEDNESDAY) AT SIX AT THE CAMPBELLSPORT VILLAGE HALL.
