ATV FALLS THROUGH ICE

A 55-YEAR OLD MAN FROM FOND DU LAC DIES AFTER HIS ATV FELL THROUGH THE ICE ON LAKE WINNEBAGO. THE FOND DU LAC COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE IDENTIFIES PETER ZACHERL AS THE INDIVIDUAL WHO PASSED AWAY. ZACHERL HAD BEEN TRAVELLING WITH A GROUP IN AN AREA OFF THE FOND DU LAC RIVER TOWARDS THE WEST SIDE OF THE LAKE WHEN HIS ATV WENT THROUGH. ANOTHER ATV WITH A 23-YEAR OLD MALE DRIVER AND 22-YEAR OLD FEMALE PASSENGER WERE UNABLE TO STOP AND WENT THROUGH AS WELL, BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WATER. OFFICIALS SAY ZACHERL WAS UNDER WATER FOR A PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE HE WAS PULLED UNCONCIOUS AND UNRESPONSIVE FROM THE LAKE. HE WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THE AREA WHERE THE ACCICDENT TOOK PLACE HAD ABOUT 1-2 INCHES OF ICE, AND THERE WAS ALSO A CRACK AROUND THE AREA.
