MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) – The iconic Germania Hall, now called Dreams, a Latin fusion restaurant, is in the process of being purchased by the City of Menasha, a step into revitalizing the downtown area.
“We wanted to be proactive here and acquire the property so that we can steer our own destiny,” said Community Development Director Andrew Dane. “And come up with a plan that meets the needs of the community, while also providing tax base and property taxes for us to maintain city services.”

While no immediate plans have been made, city officials have talked about the expansion of parking lots, housing, and even expanding the city-owned senior living facility, which is in need of upgrades to continue being a viable option for the community.
“Some additional conversations are happening regarding the potential to expand or incorporate a new senior center into some new development down here,” Dane said.
In 2017, the city created a preliminary plan to see what areas of downtown Menasha are best suited to help improve the city, and with the purchase of Germania Hall, a new plan has been created.

“We have an update to the comprehensive plan that we are just kicking off, called Menasha 2035: Your Place on the Water,” said Dane. “That is a 10-year vision to guide the city’s growth and development from 2025 to 2035.”
On Monday, the city was approved for the purchase and is hoping to have it completed in July, starting the city’s vision of reaching Menasha 2035.
