Officials say one man was seen fleeing from the scene on foot, leading to a pursuit. The pursuit would ramp up after the suspect ran toward a nearby fast-food restaurant and stole an unoccupied, running vehicle from the restaurant’s parking lot.
Police made an unsuccessful attempt to stop the stolen vehicle, which continued to flee and was able to evade the officers.
The stolen vehicle was found abandoned a short time later, and officers from Madison who were assisting in the matter found the suspect and began a second foot pursuit.
With coordination between the Madison Police Department, the Fitchburg Police Department, and some alert members of the community who reported the suspect’s location, police found the suspect hiding in a boat parked behind a building.
