VERONA, Wis. (WFRV) – A Wisconsin man was taken into custody Friday night after fleeing from police during a traffic stop for unsafe lane changes.
According to the Verona Police Department, around 8:15 p.m. on June 20, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle on U.S. Highway 18/151 near exit 76 after observing multiple unsafe lane changes.

The vehicle initially paused, then accelerated rapidly up the off-ramp. At the top of the ramp, the driver lost control and crashed into a tree.
The driver, identified as Michael T. Gales, ran from the vehicle but was found and arrested without further incident. He denied being injured, but EMS responded and transported him to a hospital, where he was medically cleared before being booked into jail.
Authorities say Gales was in possession of marijuana and a large amount of cash. He was on active parole at the time for endangering safety by using a firearm and violated his parole by possessing illegal drugs.

Officials add that Gales also had multiple outstanding warrants and a documented history of fleeing from officers.
