GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – In what will be the 48th year of the event, the Green Bay Open Chess Championship is set to be hosted by the Oneida Hotel and Conference Center.
According to a release, the Green Bay Open has been an annual US Chess Heritage and Grand Prix Event since 1977, except for the pandemic year in 2020.
Last year, a record-high 21 chess competitors from throughout Wisconsin and its bordering states battled for the title, with a similar turnout expected for this year’s event, including several National Masters.

This year’s Green Bay Open Chess Championship will have a fully guaranteed cash prize fund of $3,00,0 with trophies included for the top winners and junior players by age group.
The event takes place from June 28 to June 29, with registration open until 9:25 a.m. on June 28 as games are expected to begin at 10:00 a.m.
There is no charge for anyone wishing to spectate the event or for those who wish to analyze or play their own chess games outside the tournament room. Additional details can be found here.
