The Heavy Urban Rescue Team arrived on the scene around 9:04 p.m., assessing damage to the building. The roof structure outside of the collapse’s vicinity was deemed intact and undamaged.
An air monitor verified no additional hazards were present, while officials examined and confirmed that the two main roof drains near the collapse were plugged with debris, deeming the cause to be the result of the stormwater buildup.
Employees were able to move products around the store but not inside the safety perimeter, and a firewatch was established due to the fire alarm system being shut down.
