(WFRV) – Both the University of Wisconsin-Madison and South Dakota State University are in mourning after news broke Wednesday that Wisconsin native Nate White died at 20.
White, originally from Milwaukee, spent two seasons with the Badgers, and while he didn’t make an appearance during the regular season for the Badgers, he was considered one of the top prep recruits in the state of Wisconsin.
Before committing to Wisconsin, White was said to have rushed for 1,345 yards and 26 touchdowns. As a junior at Milwaukee’s Rufus King High School, he earned conference player of the year honors as a quarterback after rushing for 1,163 yards and 22 touchdowns.
News of Nate White’s tragic passing has been sad and difficult to comprehend for all of the Wisconsin Badger Football Family.

The former Badger transferred to South Dakota State and competed at the running back position during spring practice for the Jackrabbits.

White received high praise from Jackrabbits Head Coach Dan Jackson, who cited how White’s “hard work, determination, and overall positive spirit” impacted SDSU’s football program.
The South Dakota State University community is deeply saddened by the news of Nate White’s passing. While Nate had not been on campus long, he was not only beloved by his teammates and coaches, but also by faculty and those who had the opportunity to get to know him. This is certainly a sad time for our campus, community and the thousands of Jackrabbits supporters across the state and nation. Our hearts and prayers are with Nate’s family, loved ones, teammates and anyone who knew him.

Officials say he was currently majoring in interdisciplinary studies at the time of his death. No information has yet been provided on the situation surrounding White’s death.
