FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – One man was arrested Wednesday evening in Fond du Lac for his first Operating While Intoxicated offense after leading police on a “low-speed” pursuit lasting 14 minutes and 2.5 miles.
According to a release from the Fond du Lac Police Department, officers were notified at 9:29 p.m. of a vehicle traveling the wrong direction on South Macy Street near West 1st Street with no headlights or taillights turned on.
At 9:35 p.m., Fond du Lac officers spotted the vehicle near East Johnson Street and North National Avenue. A traffic stop was attempted, but the driver failed to yield, and a pursuit began.
Additional officers continued to respond and gave multiple verbal commands, which the driver ignored and began slowly driving around the loop of Elms Acres Drive.
Police deployed a tire deflation device that punctured at least one hole, but the driver continued to flee. A second deployment of stop sticks was made at Morningside Drive and East 2nd Street, with the pursuit ending following a successful PIT maneuver in the 1000 block of Bluehill Avenue.
The pursuit was said to officially last 14 minutes and 2.5 miles. Throughout the entirety of the incident, police say the suspect drove near the speed limit and obeyed traffic signals.
The suspect, a 32-year-old Milwaukee man, was taken to the hospital for medical examination before being arrested and booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail on the following charges.
- Felony fleeing and eluding
- Misdemeanor resisting an officer
- OWI – first offense
Charges are being referred to the Fond du Lac District Attorney’s Office. No other information is available.
