KAUKAUNA, Wis. (WFRV) – Kaukauna’s Fire Department is witnessing something that may only happen once in a career for some firefighters.
A new 1.6 million ladder truck is joining the Kaukauna Fire Department’s fleet, which Fire Chief Jake Carrel called one of a kind.

“This particular ladder truck is fully functional as a ladder and an engine,” Chief Carrel said. “We have a 100-foot ladder on the top fully capable of performing firefighter efforts.”
The truck was specifically designed to serve the needs of the continuously expanding community.
“These trucks are custom-built, so we took a lot of time and we had to realize what the community needed,” Chief Carrel said.
The city is expanding with new apartments, which the 100-foot ladder will be able to reach, an intentional design aspect.
“This aerial was designed with the new apartment complexes in mind and large-scale buildings that need to be built here in Kaukauna,” Assistant Fire Chief Cody Foss said.
The truck was built locally by Pierce Manufacturing, which specializes in commercial fire apparatus. Mayor Tony Peterman said that Kaukauna and the surrounding Fox Valley community worked on the project.

“[It’s great] to have Pierce right in the community, where a lot of people in Kaukauna [and] the Fox Valley work,” Mayor Peterman said. “It’s great to get a vehicle locally.”
This new truck can capture and store about twice the water supply of a normal truck, plus, it features faster response times, as it only takes one firefighter about 30 seconds to set up.
