While getting to the scene, a responding officer was shot in the chest, but thankfully serious injury was prevented thanks to a bullet-resistant vest. The officer was hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery.
During the early stages of the investigation, officers found two people allegedly involved in the original shooting. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second victim was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, who reportedly fled the scene of the shooting, was later pursued by law enforcement agencies. That pursuit ended near Milwaukee’s West Reservoir Avenue and North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Near the end of the pursuit, the suspect allegedly exchanged gunfire with officers. After authorities returned fire, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was noted in the release that the Shorewood Police Department was “not directly involved in the vehicle pursuit or the subsequent officer-involved shooting.”
