ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WFRV) – Green Bay native Ethan Plog began his baseball career at Bay Port High School, where he won the Fox River Classic Conference player-of-the-year award in 2023, before committing to Iowa Western Community College.
Two years later, Plog is pitching for Green Bay’s very own Northwoods League summer college baseball team, the Green Bay Rockers.
Rockers’ Field Manager Josh Merrill, who serves as the head baseball coach at North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC), coached against Plog, who had a near-perfect outing against his group earlier this year. So, when Merrill got wind that Ethan wanted to play for the Rockers, he was all ears.

“He texted me and said, ‘Hey Coach, I wanna play for the Rockers’, and I said, ‘Let’s go, I’ll see you on Monday,'” Merrill added. “He shut us [NIACC] out for seven innings, so I saw it first hand on the field, and said, man, this guy wants to come be on my team? I’m in.”

Plog was a standout his freshman year at Iowa Western before getting a call from Josh Simpson, the Director of Baseball Operations, about coming to LSU for an official visit. And, after that, it was all she wrote.
After one visit, late last November, Plog committed to play baseball for the Tigers.
“The community, the people, the area, everything, it was amazing, and my last day there, I just committed on the spot, I knew it was the place to be for me,” Plog said.
