APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Progress is moving along on the future home of the Trout Museum of Art, and Local 5 News got a behind-the-scenes look at the construction underway on College Avenue.
The new site, which will eventually be part of a larger mixed-use building, is being developed to include more than just a home for art. When complete, the four-story structure will feature a combination of cultural, academic, and residential space.

The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services Secretary visited the site on Monday, touring the construction and hearing from project leaders about the broader impact the building will have on the Appleton community.

“What a great opportunity for our community to continue to grow, to be able to have Trout have a new space, to expand Lawrence’s educational space, and to be able to showcase,” said Johnathan Ballmer, Vice President and Director of Operations at The Boldt Company, which is managing the project. “There’s not really a standardization for that modular residential side, so that was kind of our focus today — to explore that.”
Once complete, the Trout Museum will occupy the building’s first floor. Lawrence University will use the second floor for academic programming, while modular housing units will be added to the third floor. The university also owns the fourth floor.
