As deputies secured the area, a 35-year-old armed man exited the back of the home and was shot by one of the deputies. He received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital.
Deputies then entered the residence and found a woman dead inside. Early indications suggest both deceased individuals died from gunshot wounds.
Two children were found unharmed inside the home and were released to a family member.
The deputy involved in the shooting is a 13-year veteran of the Portage County Sheriff’s Office and has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol.
