ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WFRV) — This week, up until Sunday, Green Bay is hosting the 2025 Professional Women’s Bowling Association Anniversary Open.
The tournament championship, held this Sunday at the Resch Center, has the potential to be the largest crowd at a professional women’s bowling event since 2011, when the US Women’s Open was hosted at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
Jordan Snodgrass, the 2023 PWBA Player-of-the-Year and a six-time tour champion, says to be here in Green Bay, with the opportunity to compete on one of the biggest stages in her sport, would be awesome.
“Honestly, it’s probably the coolest thing that they will offer us right now,” Snodgrass added. “And, I want to be a part of that, I want to be bowling on that stage.”
Snodgrass is one of 97 bowlers competing this week, and Northeast Wisconsin is well represented. Kelly Whipple, a graduate of UW-Whitewater, originally from Sheboygan, was the NCAA Division III Women’s Bowling Player-of-the-Year this past season. It’s Whipple’s first season on the PWBA tour, and she says it means everything to be bowling in what is basically her backyard.
“I was super excited when I found out that an event this size was going to be so close to home,” Whipple said.”
And, to potentially win a major tour event in front of her friends and family, in Whipple’s words, ‘it would mean the world to me.’
These women will compete for a purse of $119,150, with the eventual champion taking home $20,000. Fans can watch the championship on Sunday at 6 PM on CBS Sports Network.
