OSHKOSH, Wis. (WFRV) – Several towns and villages surrounding Oshkosh will soon have to find new ambulance coverage.
Oshkosh’s Common Council voted unanimously to end ambulance service agreements with eight nearby communities: the towns of Algoma, Black Wolf, Nekimi, Omro, Poygan, Rushford, Utica and Winneconne.

Those contracts will expire at the start of 2026.
City leaders say the decision comes after years of increasing demand for ambulance calls within Oshkosh itself. They also added that maintaining service in outlying towns has become unsustainable, citing staffing shortages and high call volumes.
Oshkosh Fire officials said that cutting the service agreements allows them to focus resources on city residents, improving response times for emergencies within city limits.

It’s not yet clear who will provide ambulance services for the affected towns once the contracts end.
Oshkosh officials say they’ve notified the towns; however, no replacement plans have been announced.
