SPARTA, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in western Wisconsin announced the arrest of four suspects in a theft case that happened at Butterfest.
According to the Sparta Police Department, on June 7, the department received reports of overnight thefts from vendor tents at the Butterfest grounds. Four juveniles were identified as the suspects in the case.
The four suspects were ages 12, 13 and 15, police said. All four were reportedly referred to Monroe County Human Services on charges of theft.
Authorities provided photos of the alleged stolen items, which included jewelry. There was no mention of the estimated dollar value of the items.
Police said they couldn’t think of another time similar vendor thefts happened at the Butterfest event.
We cannot think of another time such vendor thefts have occurred at our Butterfest event. Both the Butterfest Committee and the Sparta Police Department are working to ensure it does not happen again in the future. We hope this isolated incident does not discourage vendors from participating in future Butterfest events.
