(WFRV) – A few weeks after Officer Kendall Corder was killed while on duty, the Milwaukee Police Department held a funeral for their fallen brother, who was shot unexpectedly during a weapons call on June 26.
Officer Corder, along with another officer, responded at 9:22 p.m. to North 25th Street and West Garfield Avenue on reports of somebody with a weapon

While on the way, both officers were unexpectedly shot in an alley in the 2200 block of North 24th Place, with one officer battling non-fatal injuries. Officer Corder was in critical condition.
Officer Corder died from fatal gunshot wounds on June 29, and a man was officially charged for alleged involvement in the shooting, which also injured another police officer.
Governor Tony Evers had previously ordered flags to be flown at half-mast for the late Officer Corder, as he was laid to rest on Friday, July 11. Officials and police across the state sent their words of support, including multiple departments in northeast Wisconsin.
Fond du Lac District Attorney Eric J. Toney was in attendance for the funeral service, releasing the following statement via his Facebook page:
“Yesterday we said goodbye to Officer Kendall Corder and celebrated his life of service to his community. A hero was taken from us but he will not be forgotten.”

The Appleton Police Department released the following statement on their respective social media page as well:
“Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Kendall Corder, as well as everyone at the Milwaukee Police Department. We stand with you in this time of grief and remember the courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice of a true hero who served selflessly to protect others.
Rest in peace, Officer Corder. Your service will never be forgotten.”
The Menasha Police Department posted a statement as well, citing Officer Corder’s ultimate sacrifice, while saying his legacy will live on forever.
“He lived a life of service, answering the call with courage and commitment far beyond his years. In the face of danger, he stood firm—not for recognition, but out of love for the community he swore to protect.
Officer Corder made the ultimate sacrifice doing what heroes do: putting others first. His loss leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his legacy will not be forgotten.
Today, we pause to honor his life, his bravery, and his unwavering dedication to others.”
Several departments in northeast Wisconsin were honored to participate in the procession, including the Neenah Police Department, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, and Door County Sheriff’s Office, which sent representatives to pay tribute to Officer Corder.
