FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – A Green Bay man is now being held in custody on multiple charges following a police pursuit early Thursday morning that ended in the driver being arrested for his 9th OWI offense.
According to a release from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were made aware at 4:52 a.m. of a pursuit involving a reckless driver on I-41 South fleeing from Wisconsin State Patrol troopers in Winnebago County.
Troopers called off the pursuit but continued following the vehicle in question as it was driving at normal highway speeds. Upon entering Fond du Lac County, a deputy spotted and attempted to stop the vehicle near I-41 South and Military Road.
Officials say the vehicle fled from the deputy, ignoring their lights and sirens, which led to another pursuit being initiated.
Deputies pursued the vehicle as it exited the interstate onto Military Avenue and headed northbound on Rolling Meadows Drive while continuing to ignore law enforcement’s emergency light.
A Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver was successfully carried out, allowing squad cars to box in the suspect vehicle, safely ending the pursuit near Pioneer Road and Johnson Street.
Following the 2.7-mile-long pursuit, the 59-year-old driver from Green Bay was not compliant with commands when exiting his vehicle, and a stun gun was used on the man, allowing deputies to arrest him without any further incident.
