APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Fox Valley Technical College is welcoming 52 girls to campus this week for GirlTech, its most popular summer camp aimed at encouraging young girls to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.
The three-day camp, running from July 21 to 23, invites girls ages 9 to 13 to take part in a variety of hands-on STEM activities led by women already working in the field. Sessions include welding, soldering, diesel engine work, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence.

Companies such as Plexus, Miller Electric, and Kimberly-Clark are partnering with the camp to lead several sessions. Each year, three alumni of the camp return to pay it forward by teaching and mentoring current campers.

While women continue to make gains in STEM careers, they remain underrepresented. According to the World Economic Forum, women accounted for 28.2% of the global STEM workforce in 2024, compared to 47.3% in non-STEM fields.
Organizers hope camps like GirlTech will help close that gap by fostering early interest and confidence in STEM among young girls.
