STODDARD, Wis. (WFRV) – A 72-year-old La Crosse man died Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle along State Highway 35, south of La Crosse.
According to the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 1:30 p.m. as the man was biking south on the paved shoulder of the highway. Authorities say he suddenly veered left into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by a 74-year-old woman from Genoa.
Despite the driver’s attempt to avoid the collision, the vehicle struck the cyclist. Emergency responders performed lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the cyclist was known to frequently ride on Mohawk Valley Road, which intersects with the opposite side of Highway 35.
