WAUTOMA, Wis. (WFRV) – She has the smarts to be a Harvard graduate and life experiences that many dream of, and on Thursday, the community gathered to celebrate yet another milestone in the life of Evelyn Houghton.
Evelyn celebrated her 110th birthday on Thursday, as the oldest resident in Waushara County and one of the oldest residents in all of Wisconsin. But her age hasn’t stopped her from enjoying things she loves.

A Harvard University alum, Evelyn was a nursing teacher and has lived in the Heartland House in Wautoma since 2000.
Evelyn said she doesn’t have any ‘secrets’ to living as long as she has, but she did mention that she lives by the idea of moderation.
“I try to be moderate in everything that I do, say or think,” Evelyn said. “That helps a lot.”
