WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. (WFRV) – After over 24 hours of searching for a suspect in an attempted homicide in Wisconsin Dells, officers in Chicago took the man into custody.
Officers with the Wisconsin Dells Police Department stated in a pair of releases details on an attempted homicide that happened around 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, in the area of USH 12/16 and Fitzgerald Road.
That Wednesday, first responders were called to the scene after reports of a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.
An initial investigation led officers to the 600 block of Commercial Avenue, where they collected evidence of the shooting that happened outside of a residence in the area. The suspect was not found.
The next day, July 24, officers with the Chicago Police Department reportedly took 34-year-old Oscar Perez into custody around 10 p.m. Perez, the suspect in the shooting, is from the Wisconsin Dells area. He was taken into custody on charges of first-degree attempted homicide.
“Search warrants were executed, hours of surveillance video were reviewed, and many interviews were conducted to get us to this point,” said Chief Nicholas Brinker. Brinker also noted that the victim was in stable condition.
The Wisconsin Dells Police Department was assisted during the investigation by the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office, Sauk County Emergency Response Team, Chicago Police Department, and the Lake Delton Police Department.
The investigation is still ongoing.
