DE PERE. Wis. (WFRV) – A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning at the Perkofski Boat Launch near the Brown County Fairgrounds in De Pere.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, dispatchers received a call around 12:57 a.m. reporting an individual armed with a rifle at the boat launch, located off Fort Howard Avenue. Officers from the De Pere Police Department, Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department, and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
Investigators say officers attempted to negotiate with the man before he raised the rifle. Officers from De Pere and Ashwaubenon then fired their weapons, striking the subject. Life-saving efforts were made, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers were injured. All officers involved were wearing body cameras during the incident and have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard policy.
The Wisconsin DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the case, with assistance from a DCI Crime Response Specialist, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and the State Crime Laboratory. Officials say all involved agencies are fully cooperating.
Once the investigation is complete, the DOJ will submit its findings to the Brown County District Attorney’s Office for review.
