Sanchez had originally pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect (NGI). After withdrawing that plea and entering a no-contest plea, a Fond du Lac County judge found her guilty.
On Monday, Fond du Lac District Attorney Eric Toney announced that a Fond du Lac County judge sentenced Sanchez to life in prison without eligibility for release.
The judge reportedly stated during the sentencing that Sanchez’s killing of her cellmate “was an attack that was wholly vicious. The judge cited the brutality of the homicide as the reason for denying the eligibility for release.
In light of the sentencing, District Attorney Toney said the following:
Every victim matters, regardless of their status or if they are serving a criminal sentence. This defendant brutality murdered her cellmate and created dangerous risks for other inmates and correctional officers. We will continue to protect our correctional officers and all those within our community, regardless of where they reside. We hope this sentence sends a strong message to inmates that there are consequences for committing crimes in our prisons.
