GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said last week that he would not get a true evaluation of which players would ultimately make the 53-man roster until they get out of their ‘underwear.’
On Monday, the day finally arrived where players could practice in full pads. Ahead of Tuesday’s practice, LaFleur promised fans watching that they would see ‘real football.’
And he fully delivered on that promise, as players in the trenches battled it out during full contact periods. There was a clear ramp up in intensity, which resulted in some back-and-forth between the offense and defense.
There were even a couple moments throughout practice where players shoved each other or butted heads.

One player who stood out in Tuesday’s practice was rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden. The first round pick out of Texas caught a long touchdown pass from Jordan Love while playing 11 on 11. His teammates were fired up, and Love praised Golden’s playmaking ability.
“He’s got very strong hands, and he’s able to go up and compete for that ball. I think that’s one of those things that’s going to separate him,” Love said.

In what is a crowded wide receiver room, the Packers front office will face some tough decisions when deciding who ultimately will make the 53-man roster.
In other news, Running back MarShawn Lloyd was seen in a hoodie and sweats on Tuesday, after being hit by cornerback Nate Hobbs in Monday’s practice, however, Coach LaFleur believed the injury occurred prior to the hit. Lloyd did not participate during Tuesday’s practice due to what the Packers athletic training staff later confirmed was a groin injury.
After two intense full pad practices in hot conditions, the Packers have the day off Wednesday before resuming practice on Thursday.
