GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Congressman Tony Wied told Local 5 News that he’s received threats from a person who volunteers for the Democratic Party of Brown County.
Wied said the man had said that he and his staff deserve the death penalty and emailed him the following message.

Wied told Local 5 News that he has reported the threats to the Capitol Police.
“If someone were like that on my team or did something like that, they would be fired immediately and held accountable,” Wied said. “Yet the Democratic Party of Brown County doesn’t say a word about it.”

Since Local 5 News interviewed Tony Wied on Tuesday afternoon, the Democratic Party of Brown County has released a statement.
The Democratic Party of Brown County is aware of and addressing the recent accusation regarding a communication from a local member to Congressman Wied’s office that some have characterized as a threat.
We have seen the consequences when violent rhetoric goes unchecked. There is no place in our politics for threatening or hostile language, not from elected officials, staff, volunteers, or even the President of the United States. We unequivocally condemn political violence and strive to uphold a standard of civility and accountability. We urge leaders of all political backgrounds to speak out clearly against political violence and hateful rhetoric, especially in moments of real tragedy. Condemnation should not depend on who is targeted or where it comes from. Our communities deserve consistent and principled leadership.
While Mr. Wied is in the district we hope he will find time to meet with constituents where we can have a serious dialogue about how political violence — no matter from which side — has become a pervasive issue, as well as other issues facing our district.”

A group of Democratic lawmakers, including state representatives Amaad Rivera-Wagner and Ryan Spaude and Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich (his current position is nonpartisan), condemned political violence and threats in a news conference Tuesday evening.
Local 5 News had asked them about political threats in general, not specifically the one that Wied alleges the Democratic Party of Brown County-affiliated individual made.
