GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – With the ongoing Air Quality Alert in Wisconsin as the Canadian wildfire smoke continues to fill the air, a physician with ThedaCare weighed in on tips and what to watch out for.
The air quality continues to be unhealthy for much of the summer, and spending time outside can hurt even the healthiest of people.
The effects of the air quality can lead to irritated eyes, a scratchy throat, and more.

“When numbers get really high in that unhealthy range, as it gets up close to the 150 to 200, even healthy people without underlying medical problems can start getting shortness of breath, and certainly people with risk factors, that’s when they can start to get problems breathing, heart palpitations, heart arrhythmias,” stated ThedaCare Emergency Medicine Physician Dr. William Kumprey.
According to an organization called IQ Air, Chicago at one point on Thursday was the most polluted city in the world.
