APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Starting August 1st, Valley Transit will replace its outdated fare system with the new WisGo system, allowing riders to pay using the UMO app or a reloadable WisGo card.
The change comes as the old fare system will no longer be supported by its manufacturer, prompting Valley Transit to modernize its payment options.

“This is the type of system people have been asking for because they want to be able to tap a card or tap their phone,” said a Valley Transit official, highlighting the demand for more convenient payment methods.
Riders can download the UMO app or obtain a reloadable Wisgo card to pay for their fares by simply tapping their phone or card.
Valley Transit will continue to accept existing passes through the end of the year, providing a transition period for regular users.
The new Wisgo system introduces fare capping, which limits the cost for regular riders, making public transit more affordable.

With the Wisgo system, daily fares are capped, allowing riders to pay for a day pass after reaching a certain amount, and a monthly cap of sixty dollars ensures no additional charges regardless of the number of trips taken.
The implementation of the Wisgo system is expected to enhance the convenience and affordability of public transit for Valley Transit riders, aligning with modern payment trends.
