SHAWANO, Wis. (WFRV) – Police in Shawano are informing the public of how difficult it can be to determine if a gun is real or fake following a recent incident that ended with one woman being arrested.
According to a release from the Shawano Police Department, officers responded to a trespassing complaint on Monday, August 4.
Once on the scene, police say one woman refused to leave and became combative with police while also resisting officers as they arrested her.

The woman reportedly had a black handgun tucked into her waistband that, at the time of her arrest, looked to be a black Glock 19. Upon clearing the weapon, it was determined to be a Glock 19 CO2 air pistol.
Officers say the handgun looked, felt, and was marked in a way similar to a real handgun. While a fake handgun may not pose an instant danger, police added that they were unable to tell if the gun was real or not until after they had seized it and were able to take a closer look.
Unfortunately, there are so many fake guns out there now that look just like real guns and there is no way to tell the difference until you look at it up closely. Just wanted to make everyone aware what is out there and what our officers encounter while out responding to calls.
The Shawano Police Department
The Shawano Police Department adds that it was fortunate that the incident “played out the way it did” and ended in just the woman being arrested and going to jail.
