MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) – As football season kicks off, scammers are targeting food truck vendors by posing as event organizers and requesting vendor fees through peer-to-peer payment apps.
According to officials, scammers invite vendors to participate in so-called “fan events” near stadiums like Lambeau Field and ask for payment via Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal. However, these events do not exist, and vendors who pay the fees are unlikely to recover their money.

This scam method is not new and is not limited to sports events.
Authorities advise food truck operators and similar businesses to be cautious with unsolicited messages, verify event details before committing, and avoid paying fees through peer-to-peer apps, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or prepaid gift cards, as legitimate organizations do not require such payment methods.
