RACINE, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in southern Wisconsin announced that a 12-year-old boy drowned while swimming with his friends.
According to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, on August 13, around 8:15 a.m., deputies were sent to the Pershing Park Boat Launch for a report of a 12-year-old boy who went underwater and did not come back up. Authorities learned that three boys were playing and swimming near the boat launch.

The boy reportedly jumped from a ledge into the water, but struggled to get to shallow water before going under and not coming back up, the release said. One of his friends reportedly tried to get to him but was not able.
Authorities say the Racine Fire Department Dive Team started searching the water. Around 9:15 a.m., divers reportedly found the boy under the water near the boat launch.
He was sent to a hospital, and was pronounced dead, the release said.
The sheriff’s office urged the public to exercise extreme caution around bodies of water, especially for those with limited swimming abilities.
