GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – On August 13, 2006, the Green Bay Fire Department responded to a fire at a home on Edgewood Drive around 12:24 p.m., and one of the many heroic firefighters who battled the flames made the ultimate sacrifice.
19 years after the death of Lieutenant Arnie Wolff, the Green Bay Metro Fire Department is honoring his memory.
In a post, the department said that units arrived at the scene from Station 5, with crews entering the home to quickly extinguish the flames, as Lt. Wolff and Firefighter Brinkley Chaudoir entered shortly after for search and rescue efforts.
Seconds after the two entered, a section collapsed and they fell into the basement, with a wall separating them. Firefighter Brinley-Chaudoir was rescued after sustaining fractures and burns.
Report ranks Wisconsin as the fourth-best state to live in the entire U.S.
Lt. Wolff’s only exit was blocked off by debris, and rescuers were unable to respond to his MAYDAY call due to the flames and the debris. His body was recovered 13 hours after the fire was reported.
“Today, we remember and pay tribute to Lt. Wolff, who gave the ultimate sacrifice, protecting the community he loved,” the Green Bay Metro Fire Department said, in honor of a fallen colleague.
