FRIENDSHIP, Wis. (WFRV) – On Thursday night, a cat died in a Fond du Lac County house fire where firefighters helped to limit the damage to the home.
Around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center got a 911 call reporting black smoke and flames coming from a home in the Town of Friendship.

Crews quickly responded to the home in the N7000 block of Lakeshore Drive and saw flames coming from the inside of the residence.
It was learned that no one was inside the house; however, it was determined that a cat was still inside. Crews quickly put out the fire before it spread further throughout the house.
Initial investigation shows the fire started on the first floor of the residence. The home reportedly sustained moderate damage to the interior first floor, with smoke and soot damage throughout the house.

The cat was found dead inside the home. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
