GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The American Red Cross of Wisconsin is putting out an urgent call for more Disaster Action Team volunteers, as extreme weather continues to impact families both locally and across the country.
Those who volunteer will receive the proper training to respond to home fires, floods, and other emergencies, helping people in moments when they need it most.
The organization offers the free, flexible training, allowing volunteers to choose roles that fit their schedules, from shelter operations to logistics, health services, or disaster assessment.

Patty Flowers, a Red Cross volunteer, says the work is rewarding on every level. “The greatest impact is being able to fulfill what they need,” she told Local 5.
Flowers added that sometimes it’s a hug that folks need. Other times, it’s helping a family who no longer has a place to stay after something like the recent flooding in Milwaukee.
With severe weather events on the rise, the Red Cross says more trained responders are urgently needed.
