APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – After the sudden closure of both Island Sushi locations in De Pere and Appleton, the restaurant’s original owner is speaking out.
In a social media post, the former owner said the business was thriving until new ownership took over in 2024. She claims the new owners abruptly closed both locations without warning to staff or customers and have since been unresponsive to inquiries.

“It is extremely sad to see the end of Island Sushi for a lot of us,” she wrote.
The original owner also addressed customers with gift cards, asking them to hold onto them in hopes of working out a solution.
“I’m working very hard to get on my feet again due to financial and emotional issues the company that took over caused the team and me,” she said. “I cannot bring Island back, but I can bring your favorite sushi rolls back, plus some other amazing items like the Krabby Patty!”
She added that her plan is to start small with a new name and concept at a new location, which has not yet been announced.
