SHAWANO, Wis. (WFRV) – It was a big day for the Shawano School District as officials broke ground Tuesday on major educational and athletic facility upgrades funded by a voter-approved referendum.
In November 2024, voters passed a $51.23 million capital referendum to support improvements across the district.

Athletic facility upgrades include new bleachers to replace deteriorated ones that have already been removed, as well as the creation of a high school track and field area. Currently, the middle school track cannot be used for competitions, meaning events will now be able to be hosted at Shawano Community High School.

The district will also move its football and soccer field, installing a new artificial turf field, adding concession stands and an entry plaza, and relocating field lighting rather than replacing it.
On the education side, plans include remodeling high-demand and high-use spaces, expanding the high school weight room, and improving and enlarging equipment storage for physical education programs.
