OCONTO, Wis. (WFRV) – The first day of school is right around the corner, but for some foreign exchange students, time is running out and without a host family, they will not be able to attend class.
A coordinator in Oconto is working to place as many students as possible in schools across northeast Wisconsin.

“We currently have 38 students left from six countries looking for a host family,” Pan Atlantic Foundation’s local coordinator Tiffany Krall said. “The deadline is approaching quickly on September 2.”
Host families are asked to provide a safe home and welcoming environment for the school year.
“Any family is a good family. We have single people, couples and empty nesters,” Krall said. “The important thing is that they have an open heart and a willingness to share our culture with a student.”
So far, a handful of exchange students have been placed in schools across Wisconsin, including many northeastern counties.
“We have students attending Peshtigo, Lena, Bay Port, Oconto Falls, Manitowoc, Kimberly, Appleton North and more,” Krall said.
One Peshtigo student says without her host family, her American dreams wouldn’t be possible —including the chance to experience a Wisconsin winter.
“In my whole life, I have only seen snow once. So here, it will be amazing,” said June Azkargorta.
