GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Sky watchers in northeast Wisconsin could be in for a treat late tonight. Mostly clear skies are expected to give residents a good view of the Northern Lights.
The Space Weather Prediction Center says solar activity may reach G3 levels, which is strong, with brief periods of G4 levels, which is severe, possible. That means the aurora could be visible farther south than usual.
The best viewing time will be after midnight, but forecasters suggest bringing a hoodie, overnight lows will dip into the upper 40s to low 50s.
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources: Early goose season now open
The last time the northern lights put on a strong display in Brown County was back in May 2024. Skies across Wisconsin lit up with vibrant streaks of green and purple, drawing crowds outside to catch a rare view.
That memorable show was fueled by one of the strongest solar storms in decades, and now, conditions could align again tonight.
