DNR officials report that 131,567 is the 2025 population estimate for Wisconsin-breeding Canada geese, which is slightly lower than 2024’s population estimate but still higher than the long-term average by over 20%.
Hunters who choose to participate in the early goose season are being reminded to have either an electronic or physical copy of their small game license, early Canada goose permit, Harvest Information Program (HIP) registration, and proof of purchase of a state waterfowl stamp and federal Duck Stamp at all times while out hunting.
