GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis visited Local 5 News on Thursday to recap the summer and share what residents can expect heading into fall.
Davis said that while most of the city’s youth were well-behaved this summer, there were issues on the CityDeck involving juveniles, in one case as young as 11 years old, causing disruptions to businesses.
“Well, I’m going to sound like a broken record because you’ve heard me say this before, but as parents it’s really important for us to know where our kids are, who they’re with, and what they’re doing,” Davis said. “As a parent myself, I know [teenagers] can be difficult, but when your 11-year-old is on the CityDeck creating disturbances and disrupting local businesses, that’s not acceptable.”
According to the Green Bay Police Department, businesses downtown reported juveniles fighting, play-fighting, and creating disturbances. Some incidents escalated to assaults. Davis said police met with Downtown Green Bay last week to discuss strategies, and officers will continue to stage downtown during busy times as weather permits.
Looking ahead to fall events, Davis pointed to Mexican Independence Day on Sept. 16 and reminded the community about celebrating responsibly.

“For this holiday, a lot of times we will see people cruising up and down Main Street and other areas out on the east side and people congregating in parking lots,” Davis said. “Just make sure if you’re hanging out in a parking lot that you have permission from the owner to be there, and remember our rules about drinking in public are strictly enforced.”
He also reminded motorists that while flags flying from vehicles are allowed, there are restrictions: they cannot extend more than four inches off the side of the truck, nothing can extend from the driver’s side, and they cannot extend more than four feet off the back.
