APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Local 5’s Lisa Malak emceed the Fox Valley Women’s Fund luncheon Tuesday morning, celebrating women and girls who are shaping the future across the community.
The Women’s Fund works to empower women and girls in the Fox Valley through resources, mentorship, and opportunities. This year’s luncheon featured keynote speaker Katherine Switzer, the first woman to officially enter and complete the Boston Marathon.

“I am very excited to be here today because it’s all about awakenings and about making change in women’s lives,” Switzer said. “Through running I have changed millions of women’s lives, but what the Women’s Fund of the Fox Valley is doing to change women’s lives is wonderful and really, really worthy. The comparison of the two is very, very similar.”
Organizers say they hope the event will inspire the next generation of trailblazers, carrying forward the mission of creating opportunity and equality for women in the region.
