NEENAH, Wis. (WFRV) — For four years, Chloe Dickerson has been a steady force on the Appleton West girls’ golf team. Now a senior, she’s driving through her final high school season while already planning for life beyond the course.
Dickerson, a four-year varsity golfer for the Terrors, began playing the sport when she was just 4 years old.
“My grandpa golfed, and my mom golfed in high school too, so they kind of got me into it when I was younger,” Dickerson said.
While Dickerson’s skills have developed on the fairway, her dedication off the course has been equally impressive. This past summer, she completed a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) class through Fox Valley Technical College—a demanding commitment that she says was worth it.
“It was a big time commitment, but it was something I knew I wanted to do to get my career rolling,” Dickerson said. “And also have that step ahead when I start college.”
Her coach says Dickerson’s ability to manage a full plate of school, sports and outside coursework sets her apart as a leader.
“A lot of kids take for granted how hard it is to balance everything,” said Shayne Porter. “If you’re not an athlete, balancing school and work is one thing. But add in golf, and it’s just another layer. Chloe does an amazing job with that.”
Her leadership doesn’t go unnoticed by teammates either.
“She definitely sets a positive example for this team—on and off the course,” Mariah Frase said. “She’s always helping, communicating, texting us updates, and just being there if anyone needs a hand.”
Though she may not boast a trophy case full of medals, Dickerson’s true strengths lie in her consistency, character, and compassion.
“She’s determined,” her coach added. “She’s one of those kids determined to be a good nurse, a good friend, a good golfer, a good sister, and a good daughter. That determination allows her to do great things.”
As Dickerson wraps up her senior season, those who know her say her impact on the program will be long-lasting.
“I think she is such a kind and wonderful person,” Frase added. “Everyone is going to be talking about her for years to come.”
Her high school golf career may be playing its 18th hole, but Chloe Dickerson’s journey is far from over. And if the last four years are any indication, she’s on course for something truly special.
