GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The morning commute for some on Monday in Green Bay was met with construction signs, trucks and the fact that construction season is in full swing.
A reconstruction project will take place over the next couple of months, fixing a part of East Mason and Main Streets; thus, drivers will need to find a new route.

“Our streets are reconstructed on a regular schedule,” Green Bay Director of Public Works Valerie Joosten said. “When the pavement condition warrants it, and that is necessary to just keep traffic moving, and keep everything in good condition.”
The goal is to get the projects done before the first snowfall, especially as many construction projects start so close to winter.
“Some of it may be some utility work, trying to get some things done and ready before the next spring construction,” Joosten said. “With this project, we are really trying to have everything done before mid-December.”
The project will go towards resurfacing the roads, as initially planned, but also fix some of the utility pipes and other things that officials found that were damaged under the road.
“With the amount of utility work that we found that we needed to have on this street, it ended up turning into a reconstruction project,” Assistant City Engineer Chaming Yang said.
Closures may vary, as some zones will be closed for either the entire project or for only a portion of it.
“For a majority of the project, once we get through the initial month, Jasper to Lime Kiln will open back up, so Lime Kiln itself won’t be closed and people can get through; however, Lime Kiln through Main Street that stretch will be closed for the entire duration of the project.”

Backups are expected to take place for many drivers who are driving through this construction. Make sure to leave early and have a plan to get through traffic safely and slowly.
The project is estimated to be finished around mid-December.
