GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Green Bay Police Department is teaming up with Watco, the parent company of the Fox Valley and Lake Superior Rail System, for an Operation Lifesaver initiative called Officer on the Train.
The program will run on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, from 1:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. along North Quincy Street between Eastman Avenue and Radisson Street, an area where Watco has reported about five near misses between trains and vehicles since the start of the year.

As part of the effort, one officer will ride inside a locomotive to observe driver behavior while other officers monitor traffic from the ground. If a safety violation is spotted, the ground officers will stop the driver to educate them on the importance of obeying railroad signals and stopping for oncoming trains.

The last Officer on the Train effort in Green Bay took place on Nov. 28, 2023, following roughly 25 to 30 near misses earlier that year. That event resulted in nine traffic stops, including two citations and seven warnings.
The Green Bay Police Department, Watco, and Wisconsin Operation Lifesaver thanked the public for their cooperation and urged drivers to remain vigilant around train crossings to prevent future tragedies.
