(WFRV) – Officials with the Volunteer Center of Brown County say there is a need for volunteers for Aurora Health Care’s Aurora at Home Hospice nonprofit organization.
According to a release, the nonprofit helps provide support services and end-of-life care for patients and families, with volunteers playing a vital role as they ease the burden of hospice care by providing companionship, comfort, support, and other services.
Those who choose to volunteer with the Aurora at Home Hospice nonprofit can do so in one of the following roles:
- Companion volunteers:
- Spends time with patients who have a serious illness.
- May also provide a break for other caregivers or socialization for patients.
- Veteran volunteer:
- Part of the Veterans for Veterans program.
- Veteran volunteers helping other veterans through the end-of-life transition by providing a listening ear and a comforting presence.
- Honors and celebrates veterans and their service with pinning ceremonies.
- Pet therapy volunteers:
- Volunteers use certified pet therapy dogs to spread joy, reduce anxiety, and ease fears for patients and visitors.
- All therapy dogs must have their Animal-Assisted Therapy Certification to participate.
- Bereavement callers:
- Place calls to the homes of patients six months following their loss.
- Provide families with a listening ear.
- Community outreach volunteers:
- Distribute marketing materials and assist with expos.
