BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – On Wednesday, Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach unveiled his 2026 budget proposal, including the lowest property tax rate on record.
Streckenbach says the new budget proposal will make important investments in Brown County’s infrastructure, and with several major projects taking place in 2026, Brown County’s budget levy for 2026 is $96.25 million, which accounts for about $1.5 million in net new construction and the closure of some Tax Increment Districts (TID).

It was noted that the County’s outstanding debt will decrease again in 2026 by $7.76 million, bringing the total to $29.08 million, the lowest level in over 35 years. Since taking office, Brown County has paid off nearly $128 million in debt burden.
“As Executive of Brown County, I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve the public and lead this great organization employing approximately 1,700 dedicated public servants,” stated Streckenbach. “This 2026 budget proposal faces challenges head-on by fully funding our mandated services along with our adopted consolidated services, utilizing the resources available to us.”
Along with the lowest property tax rate on record, the 2026 mill rate will decrease by 14 cents, which is also the lowest mill rate on record.

Brown County will invest $29.46 million in 17 different road, bridge, and infrastructure projects in 2026 as well.
