WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Saturday urged Google to restore Univision to its YouTube TV platform, praising the Spanish-language broadcaster as a “great and very popular Hispanic network” that played a major role in helping him win the 2024 presidential election.
Trump made the appeal in a post on his Truth Social platform, calling Univision’s removal “very bad for Republicans” as the nation heads toward the 2026 midterm elections.
“I hope Univision, a great and very popular Hispanic Network, can get BACK onto the very amazing Google/YouTube,” Trump wrote.
“It has been taken out of their package, which is VERY BAD for Republicans in the upcoming Midterms. They were so good to me with their highest rated ever political Special, and I set a Republican Record in Hispanic voting.
Google, for the purpose of FAIRNESS, please let Univision back!

The former president’s public endorsement of Univision underscores the network’s surprising political transformation in recent years.
Once considered a stronghold of Democratic messaging, Univision drew attention during the 2024 election for hosting a high-profile town hall with Trump — an event that helped reshape perceptions of the Republican Party among Hispanic voters.
According to post-election analyses, including a July 2025 Pew Research Center report, Trump captured 48% of Latino voters in the 2024 race — a dramatic increase from 36% in 2020 and 28% in 2016.
Although he did not win a majority of the Hispanic vote, the shift proved decisive in battleground states such as Nevada, Arizona, and Texas, securing his victory over Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
TelevisaUnivision CEO Daniel Alegre later told Newsweek that the network’s commitment to giving all political candidates access — including Trump — was “a turning point in how Hispanic audiences view political fairness and representation.”
Alegre credited the town hall and Univision’s expanded coverage of Republican issues as major factors behind Latino voters’ move toward the GOP.
The current controversy centers on a contract dispute between Google’s YouTube TV and TelevisaUnivision, which owns Univision, UniMás, and several regional affiliates.
On Sept. 30, YouTube TV removed Univision channels from its live-streaming service, prompting backlash from Hispanic leaders and Republican officials.
“YouTube TV has refused to ‘Do the Right Thing’ and dropped Univision from its platform — stripping millions of Hispanic viewers of the Spanish-language news, sports, and entertainment they rely on every day,” TelevisaUnivision said in a statement.
YouTube responded by emphasizing that Univision’s content remains widely available for free on its standard platform — where the channel has nearly 7 million subscribers — but acknowledged that the two sides failed to reach a new licensing agreement.
“On our paid live TV subscription service, YouTube TV, TelevisaUnivision represents only a tiny fraction of overall consumption,” the company said. “Since we have not reached a new agreement with them, their content is no longer available on YouTube TV.”
Several Republican officials have echoed Trump’s call for reinstatement, suggesting the dispute could have political implications. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton last week urged YouTube to reverse its decision, warning of potential state action if political bias was involved.
Univision remains the largest Spanish-language broadcaster in the United States, reaching more than 160 million viewers globally through its television and digital platforms.
“Univision treated me very fairly, and I’ll always remember that,” Trump said in a separate Truth Social comment earlier this year. “They showed courage — and the Hispanic people appreciated it.”
