The Senate Democrats’ government shutdown is unlikely to end soon because they refuse to compromise as they kowtow to their party’s left wing, Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, said on Newsmax.
“They know they’re fighting a losing battle,” Ernst, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and a retired Army National Guard lieutenant colonel, told Monday’s “The Record With Greta Van Susteren.” “They’ve bowed to far-left extremists, and that’s not what middle America wants.”
“Uncomfortable” Democrats are passing Republicans in the halls of Congress knowing they are letting Americans down in a losing political fight without a benefit for them in the end, according to Ernst.
“We have soldiers deployed who won’t get paid and families who won’t receive critical benefits,” she told Van Susteren.
Iowa and other Midwestern states are facing a third straight year of declining farm revenue amid stalled trade deals and delayed federal support.
“Farmers in the middle of harvest aren’t thinking about politics — they’re trying to get their grain sold,” Ernst said.
“What we’re voting on is a clean resolution to reopen the government. Democrats are simply saying no.”
