FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – Fond du Lac District Attorney Eric J. Toney announced on Tuesday that a man who is illegally in the United States and convicted of domestic violence and attempted homicide was sentenced to multiple decades in prison.
According to the release, 51-year-old Fermin Teodoro Lopez-Mendoza, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, attacked his partner with a knife, stabbing her several times. She sustained life-threatening injuries for which she underwent surgery.

Lopez-Mendoza fled the scene and was arrested in Ozaukee County on the charges. Judge Andrew Christenson sentenced Lopez-Mendoza on Tuesday to 20 years of initial confinement with 10 years of extended supervision.
At the end of his sentence, Lopez-Mendoza is expected to be deported.

“If you commit acts of domestic violence or illegally enter the United States, this sentence should put you on notice that there will be consequences for your crimes,” District Attorney Toney said. “You will be aggressively prosecuted to protect our communities and end domestic violence.”
